Making parrot treats

 bismillah,

I found a nice tasty recipe for making treats for pet parrots at home!

So you must be wondering, you make treats for parrots??

Oh the heck Yeah you do!

I feed Star (that's what I named the male parrot who was brought after our this Ibro had died, actually Montaha died too...so star's alone and I want to keep him busy) a mixture of sunflower seeds and those normal seeds. But birds get bored by the same thing so you've got to give them treats and things like that.

Most of us parrot owners know our bird-eating habits, things they like and dislike, If you don't know, then you can feed your parrots different vegetables and fruits. But keep in mind not to feed them any fried or junk food.

So going to our main topic, how do you actually make the treats?

Ingredients:

  • Normal bird seed
  • Sunflower seeds or muskmelon seeds (optional but recommended; you can use seeds from fresh muskmelon)
  • Dried fruits (such as almonds, cashews, or pistachios, mashed up; optional)
  • Honey
  • Plain flour
  • Water
  • Oats (optional)
  • Fruits your bird likes (chopped up)
  • Chilies (if your bird enjoys them; also optional)

Take at least one thing from the optional, if you don't have them...its alright.

Method:

put all the dry ingredients in a bowl (two table spoon of seed, 1/2 tablespoon of plain flour)

Optional: 1 tablespoon of sunflower seeds/Muskmelon seeds, if you have both, then Half tablespoon each, some mashed dry fruits, mashed fruits, 2 tablespoon of oats, any other thing your bird likes

Mix them up, then pour one tablespoon of water, the mixture might seem a little dry. Because it must form a dough, add some honey until it forms one, you can add some more flour or seed if the mixture got too sticky.

roll it into balls and put them in a steel tray or anything you bake your things in.

If you want to hang the treat, make a hole with a stick in the balls

Fry pan method

heat up the pan and put your plate which has the balls on, cover it up so the steam doesn't come out. let it stay in for 5 minutes, until the balls are a little brown and hard, cool them up and they are ready!

Oven method

Oven is a little easy, but not very healthy for your birds...I prefer fry pan to myself, and I hope you will too!

put your balls in for five minutes and take them out.

This is the result..

To note: The recipe I told you will only make about three or two balls, for maybe your parrot won't like them and if you make lots of balls more things might be wasted. I made this as my own customized recipe, the original recipe is in this link:

https://www.allpetseducationandtraining.com.au/homemade-bird-treats.

Check out this link for more idea, as they have given pictures and other things

Only give two balls per week, keep in mind that these are treats and mustn't be fed regularly.

Star LOVED them literally, as soon he saw the treat, he went to it and ate almost half of it.

I hope your parrot liked them too, and this blog helps you in one way or another of helping your parrot bonding with you.

Salaam,

Sidra
